Podolka Karlín: "With us you can eat gluten free"

Both Podolka restaurants are great options for gluten free eating in Prague. There are a few things that come to mind when thinking about them. Firstly, we like going there for great food. We also enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of each restaurant. Especially the Podolí location is attractive because the restaurant sits right by the river. In addition, it is nice to know that Podolka prides itself in using pure, natural ingredients. They avoid MSG and other unhealthy additives. And most importantly, we appreciate the care that goes into preparing gluten free meals here.

Neither the Podolí, nor the Karlín restaurant is completely gluten free. However, many items on their menus are safe even for celiacs. You will see allergens listed along with each menu item (gluten is marked as no. 1).

Podolka’s signature tomato soup is gluten free as are all the appetizers. You can request gluten free rice cakes instead of regular bread. The restaurant has a nice selection of vegetarian meals as well as organic beef burgers that are sourced from top suppliers. If you like fish, you’ll be glad to find a few seafood specialties on the menu. To finish off your meal, you can order a home-made gluten free dessert.

As is common in many Czech restaurants, Podolka serves a special lunch menu on week days from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You can order soup and one of several main meals, some of which are gluten free.

What About the Children?

One thing that could be improved is the selection of food suitable for children. If you come with kids who need to eat gluten free, you may be faced with a bit of a struggle. In our opinion, there is not much on the menu that’s especially attractive to kids. You can only hope that your little one will appreciate the (very tasty) turkey with baked potatoes. At the time of writing, it was the only kids’ meal on the menu that was gluten free.
